Macau

The total gross gaming revenue further surged 48.9% YoY to over MOP
19.7 billion in 2Q 2007. In the first half of 2007, the total gross
revenue in Macau recorded MOP 38.4 billion, 42.5% more than that of
Las Vegas Strip in the US over the same period. As at the end of 2Q
2007, there are a total of 26 casinos in Macau.

The above is from this Colliers report. Macau is not part of mainland China, and we note this information because of its potential impact on Zhuhai, which is an area of great interest to us. This report, together with all other intelligence I've received, suggests that Macau is set for a period of very rapid economic growth. Given the very limited land available in Macau itself, it seems hard to believe that Macau's stellar growth will not have a spillover effect in Zhuhai. It is widely trailed that the border crossing between Macau and the mainland, which is at Gong Bei Port, Zhuhai, will open 24/7 very soon. This will increase the Macau demand for Chinese jobs considerably. As the residents from Macau become more wealthy they will increasingly look at the lower prices in Zhuhai, through living there themselves and communting, or paying for a flat for their girlfriend in Gong Bei.
